Do you have back pocket dinners? Think: recipes you reach for at the last minute, knowing they’ll be a hit. We’ve got a few in our family but this is a consistent favorite.
If you haven’t tried ham sliders you’re missing out. I first had them at my in-law’s house and couldn’t get enough. I swapped poppy seeds for everything seasoning primarily out of laziness but also inconvenience: I really, really hate buying single-use ingredients. Plus they get stuck in your teeth so…bye.
(We’re ignoring the fact that poppy seeds are actually in everything seasoning, yes? At least you can use everything seasoning on eggs, avocados, etc… okay I know I’m contradicting myself so I’ll stop now thx.)
These also make the perfect take-in meal as it easily doubles. (Just me? I always make something I can serve my family, too.) I send with this pasta salad (minus olives and onions), a salad kit, and some cookies or brownies. Low calorie they are not but, listen, sometimes you make food that your toddlers eat and worry about vegetables later.
These sandwiches are melty, crispy, salty…all my favorite things. I promise they’ll be your back pocket dinner, too.
everything ham sliders
Ingredients
for the sandwiches
- 1 package (12 count) Hawaiian rolls
- deli sliced ham
- sliced provolone cheese
for the sauce
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ¾ teaspoon ground mustard
- 1 teaspoon onion flakes
- 1 ½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 ½ teaspoons everything bagel seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350. Butter or spray a 9×13 pan. (Tip: I use the butter wrapper from the sauce to butter the pan!)
- Mix sauce ingredients well. Some of the ingredients tend to settle, so mix well and don't be afraid to mix again later!
- Slice rolls in half. (I always, always mess this up. Do not worry–it's bread and melted butter. You're fine!) Place bottom half of rolls in the prepared pan.
- Spoon or brush half of the sauce onto the bottom half of the rolls. Top with ham and then cheese. You do as little or much as you like here! I usually do a double layer of ham and a single layer of cheese.
- Place top half of rolls on…top. 😉 Brush/spoon remaining sauce mixture on top. Try and evenly spread the onion flakes and everything seasoning!
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, until cheese is melted and top of the rolls are crispy.
- Let cool for about 5 minutes, cut, and serve!
